DREADMOOR Fishing & Bait: Skills and Storage
Dreadmoor's skill-based fishing: bait selection, lure crafting, fish storage, the Fishing Skill Tree, and the officially named fish species.
Last updated: September 25, 2026
Fishing is the center of DREADMOOR. Official material describes skill-based fishing — not a luck-based minigame — connected to bait crafting, storage, inventory, and ship upgrades. This page collects everything officially confirmed about the fishing system and flags everything that still isn't.
How fishing works in DREADMOOR
Official positioning calls DREADMOOR's fishing skill-based. The September 2026 demo news explicitly reworked "the fishing mechanic", which means how it actually feels minute-to-minute changed late in development. Officially confirmed pieces of the system:
- Bait selection — what you put on the hook matters.
- Lure crafting — lures are crafted, not just found; materials come from salvage and fish resources.
- Fish storage — a dedicated fish storage upgrade for your trawler is confirmed, so how much you can carry back is a real progression choice.
- Fishing Skill Tree — a confirmed progression track dedicated to fishing.
What is not confirmed: exact catch rates, rarity tiers, minigame mechanics, rod statistics, and fishing spot maps. The demo on October 6, 2026 is the first chance to verify any of it.
Officially named fish species
Six fish species are confirmed by name in official material — four from demo news and two more visible (tagged "predatory") in official store screenshots:
| Species | Confirmed by |
|---|---|
| Softgrazer | Official demo news |
| Bristler | Official demo news |
| Shovelnose | Official demo news |
| Gleamer | Official demo news |
| Harpooner | Official screenshot (predatory) |
| Bloodgill | Official screenshot (predatory) |
Their habitats, values, bait preferences, and sizes are not published — we will fill this table from the demo once it is playable. Any site listing exact values for these fish right now is guessing.
⚠️ Playtest fish data is historical
The September 10–14, 2026 Open Playtest used reworked fish populations, and its content does not carry over. Guides written around playtest spawn points or values are obsolete — including any numbers we published from the test. Demo data (Oct 6, 2026) replaces everything.
Bait and lures
Bait selection and lure crafting are confirmed systems, and the game's crafting loop (salvaged materials + fish resources) feeds directly into them. The practical loop described by official material looks like this:
- Catch fish and scavenge materials.
- Process resources at your workbench.
- Craft bait and lures tailored to what you are targeting.
- Spend bait on deeper, more dangerous, more profitable water.
Which bait works on which species is unconfirmed. The four named species above are the first bait-testing targets once the demo is live.
Fish storage and the trip economy
Because the trawler is your home base, storage defines how profitable a run can be. The confirmed fish storage upgrade increases what a single trip can hold. Combined with the Fishing Skill Tree, the intended progression is clear: longer, riskier trips into better water, with enough storage to make them pay.
Exact storage capacities and upgrade costs are not yet published.
Fishing Skill Tree
A dedicated Fishing Skill Tree is confirmed. Official material names the tree but has not published its nodes, so we will not invent perk lists here. Expect it to interact with bait, catch quality, and storage — that part is inference, and we will verify node by node on October 6, 2026.
💡 Sea Blight — naming note
Official material refers to the world's central corruption as the Sea Blight (occasionally written "Sea-Blight" in demo news). Both spellings refer to the same thing. How it affects specific fishing grounds is unconfirmed.
What we'll verify first in the demo
- Catch mechanics of the reworked fishing system, step by step.
- What each of the four named species responds to.
- Bait and lure recipes, and their material costs.
- Fish storage upgrade cost and capacity.
- The full Fishing Skill Tree, node by node.
These topics now have dedicated pages with the latest verified detail: the fishing guide and the bait & lures guide. This page remains the skill-and-storage overview.
